In the popular cult TV hit Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Sarah Michelle Gellar plays Buffy Summers, a teenage girl chosen in her generation to be the Slayer. In this series created by Joss Whedon, Buffy kills countless vampires and other monsters with her trusty wooden stake and with the help of her “Scooby Gang.”
But what if Buffy was actually suffering from delusions of being a chosen one? That is the idea that veteran Five Earths Project writer Libbylawrence explores in “The Chosen,” which stars Dr. Drusilla Zero, ghost detective, the daughter of the star of the Zero, Ghost Detective series from Feature Comics #32-72 published by Quality Comics from 1940 to 1943 (you can read a couple of Zero, Ghost Detective stories at the Golden Age Heroes blog).
Although this story takes place on Earth-X, which in the present-day of the late 1980s is in the middle of another war between the Axis and the Allies, Libbylawrence proves that there’s still room on Earth-X for good old-fashioned character stories.
