The Five Earths Project celebrated its 10th anniversary in January, 2010, since Starsky Hutch 76 and others founded it on January 18, 2000. The Project originally began life as a single Yahoo! Group — The JSA All Star Story Site — in October, 1999, but it wasn’t the Five Earths Project until Starsky founded a second Yahoo! Group called Earth-1 After the Crisis. Within a few months, more groups were added for Earth-S, Earth-4, and Earth-X, and there were even associated groups for Earth-3, Earth-C, and Earth-12.
On April 18, 2000, longtime archivist Doc Quantum launched the first of several corresponding archives for the Five Earths Project groups. And ever since then, he and fellow archivists Martin Maenza and Dan Swanson have published online the stories written for the groups.
As those of you who have followed us for a while know, we previously had a Geocities portal page with links to the individual Five Earths Project groups and archives sites. Geocities closed down in October, 2009, leaving us without a home on the web.
Thanks to our good friend and fellow writer Chuck Burke, AKA Immortalwildcat, the Five Earths Project now has its own website here at 5earths.info.
As we continue to develop this site, it will serve not only as the portal page for the Five Earths Project but will also contain the entire archives for all stories written for the Project. Besides promoting current and recent stories in the groups, this site will act as a review site of sorts, providing short reviews and excerpts from the wealth of great stories already written. In this way, stories long ago archived and almost forgotten will have a chance to have new life breathed into them. Readers will have the opportunity to comment individually on these stories.
The Five Earths Project has been around for more than 10 years now, and we hope to be around for many more years to come. And we’re always looking for new talent. If you have an idea that would fit into one of the worlds in the Five Earths Project, please join the Five Earths Project Writer’s List and submit your story proposal there.
